The Chiloe wigeon normally lives in the southern portion of South America. You can find this bird in freshwater lakes, lagoons, and slow flowing rivers.
Males and females are very similiar. The male has a white patch on its forehead, which is larger than the female's. The upper parts are black, white, and buff. It has a white breast, and the bills are bluish.
It breeds from January to August. It lays 6-9 white eggs, in a hole covered by vegetation. The incubation period is 26 days.
